My Goal Is God Himself

 

  

Habbakuk wrote in chapter four that he would rejoice in the Lord even when the fig tree failed to blossom, and the fields yielded no food, and when there were no herds in the stalls.

In other words, when everything ceased to be normal, Habbakuk made his mind up that he would rest in days of trouble.

His determined response was to rejoice in the Lord and find joy in the God of his salvation.

He chose to rejoice when the normal blessings of life were going to cease due to a foreign country invading his land.

He could rest in the day of trouble because he knew that the Lord would judge righteously.

Even before the trouble affected his life personally, Habbakuk prepared his own heart's response. 

His heart would remain committed to God.

His longing and desire in life, even before loss came into the land, was for God Himself.

His security and hope had always been the Lord alone.

 His life, hope and joy had always been found in God rather than in temporary blessing.

God was his strength.

God was his deepest joy.

Long before difficulties took over in life Habbakuk had found his all in the Lord.

Aa he wrote.....the just shall live by faith.

His faith in the Lord would allow him to endure the imminent invasion as well as all of his confusion and questions.

Those who are able to rest in the day of trouble do so by unwavering faith in God.

God is good.

He doeth all things well.

Trust in Him alone.

My goal is God Himself, not joy nor peace, not even blessing, but Himself my God, tis His to lead me there, not mine, but His, at any cost dear Lord, by any road.

So faith bounds forward to it's goal in God, and love can trust her Lord to lead her there, upheld by Him my soul is following hard, till God has full fulfilled my deepest prayer.

No matter if the way be sometimes dark, no matter if the cost be oft times great,  He knoweth how I best shall reach the mark, the way that leads to Him must needs be straight.
